The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago and would have been brighter than Venus.
The supernova remnant itself is so big it has several catalogue designations, it covers an area of 36 times the diameter of the full Moon, some 3 degrees.
Its estimated to be around 2400 light years away. Thats right guys, we’re seeing it as it was 2,400 years ago.

The below is a work in progress we’ve taken of it, its a 6 pane mosaic taking using our Skywatcher ED80 Refracting telescope, focal reducer, and ASI 294 camera. 180 secs x 15 subs per pane were taken. Processed in Pixinsight, stitched together using Microsoft ICE
