Spacekidets has been the exclusive pride of OASA since it was developed in December. Since we have enrolled close to 100 children onto the program with fantastic feedback. The program continues to grow.

In line with this we have just written a new module, “Space Rocks” which looks at meteors and meteorites. Often barely noticed by observers these gems from outerspace often burn up in our atmosphere and for them the story ends there.

For larger chunks which do make it through most land unnoticed in non residential areas like our vast oceans or continental Africa. Of course some do land in residential areas and receive plenty of publicity like Chelybinsk.

However they are recovered these meteorites tell us a stunning history of our solar system. From what it was made from to how it was made. This story we have tried to tell through this module giving learners a flavour of what is often an overlooked part of astronomy. Taking a look at these little messengers from space in closer detail for those which make it through the firery furnace which can be our atmosphere have a story to tell us about how we got here.

This module also looks at some of the larger craters which were created by meteorite impacts including the Arizona crater and the Aricibo Peurto Rico crater (into which they built a telescope!).

Climaxing with a discussion on the one which wiped the dinosaurs out!
